Event Overview: As part of an experiential marketing event in London to launch a new cosmetics range, influencers and journalists were taken on an immersive journey themed around a “heist.” The event’s highlight was a custom laser maze designed to protect a briefcase at one end of the room. Guests were challenged to navigate the laser beams without triggering alarms, adding an interactive and competitive element to the event. PR Live was engaged by creative event design studio Heaps and Stacks to design and deliver this unique experience.
The Challenge: To create a visually stunning, interactive laser maze that:
- Seamlessly fit the “heist” theme of the event.
- Reacted dynamically to participants’ movements, triggering alarms and lighting effects if a beam was broken.
- Was robust, reliable, and safe for influencers and journalists to interact with.
- Encouraged guest engagement and social media sharing.
Our Solution: To meet the brief, PR Live developed a bespoke laser maze system using in-house expertise. Key elements included:
- Custom Laser Modules:
- Designed and built laser modules, mounted on structures at either side of the room.
- Lasers were aimed at a network of mirrors and sensors to create an intricate web of beams.
- Interactive Sensor Feedback System:
- Sensors were connected to a central control system running on TouchDesigner.
- The software detected when a beam was blocked, triggering an alarm sound and flashing the event’s lighting rig to heighten the drama.
- Timed Challenges:
- A countdown clock was displayed on a screen embedded in the podium holding the briefcase.
- This ensured every guest had a fair turn and added a layer of urgency to the experience.
- Atmospheric Enhancements:
- Haze machines were deployed to make the laser beams vividly visible, enhancing the immersive quality of the experience.
- Seamless Integration:
- The system was designed to be easily initiated by a host at the push of a button, ensuring smooth operation throughout the event.
Results: The laser maze was a resounding success, achieving the following outcomes:
